Take Cycle

Slot machines are programmed to receive a certain number of coins before it pays out any wins but is usually related to the larger jackpot amounts. The take cycle is a theoretical cycle of these payouts that are assumed by players to be set. As the casino industry is heavily regulated, slot machines use Random Number Generator technology, which produces results, or symbol combinations randomly.

Theme

The theme refers to the art design on the machine including the appearance of the symbols and reels. All will be related to each other and to an overall theme or subject. Themes may refer to popular television or movie culture, historical references or culture. Examples are Aztec, Space Rockets, Indiana Jones or Pirates Treasure.

Three Reel Slots

The first slot machine invented in the 1890s by Charles Frey used a three reel mechanism to randomly produce the result showing across three symbols, one on each reel. These show on just one line and are regarded as classic machines. Modern slot machines have multiple lines and therefore multiple reels.

THW

Acronym for Theoretical Hold Work sheet. The work sheet gives the casino the reel settings and hold values for each machine based on pre set quotas. The work sheet also contains other information on the capacity and specifications of the machine.

Tilt

A tilt occurs when the machine has been bumped or tampered with during play. Tilt may occur due to a programming error with the machine.

Tight Slot

A term given to machines that payout infrequently, therefore being ‘tight’ with money or payout. Casinos sometimes place these in areas where there is little competition from other machines.

Token

Some casinos issue token to players for playing in machines, rather than coins.

Top Prize

Top prize is the term referred to the highest win or jackpot available to players when playing slots
